Philosophy by Rick · Effective 1 November 2026

The short version: the app collects no personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no server of ours that your information goes to.

What stays on your iPhone

Your lessons, which ones you’ve read, and your settings (arrival time, leaning, length, appearance) are stored only on your device. They are not sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app deletes them.

Apple Intelligence

Lessons are adapted and questions in Ask are answered by Apple Intelligence running on your iPhone. What you type in Ask is not sent to us or stored by the app beyond the open conversation.

Facts and images from Wikimedia

To show portraits, places and background articles, the app downloads public pages and images from Wikidata, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. These requests contain only the name of the thinker being looked up — nothing about you — but, like any web request, they reach Wikimedia’s servers from your internet connection. Wikimedia’s handling of those requests is described in the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy. Downloaded pages are cached on your device.

Notifications, widgets and Siri

The 8:00 notification is scheduled on your iPhone; no push service is involved. The lock-screen widgets and the “I read Philosophy” shortcut read the same on-device data.

Children

The app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
